Our Name
Nettles (Urtica species, meaning "of two households") have been revered worldwide throughout the ages for food, fiber and medicine. They grow in disturbed areas, restoring the land and making way for a healthy abundant ecosystem.
As a collective, we have been inspired by these dynamic plants, the nettles, the thistles, the horsetails and many others, that have fed and healed populations and restored the land around us. As activists we take heed of the many ways these plants of our ecosystems, resist conformity; slowly and peacfully building and healing.
Together we have formed a guild, which in the plant world is a community of plants that live together in a system that continually supports and strengthens itself. One strand on its own may be weak, but the combination of all the strands together add to the overall strength and usefulness of the web.

"Oh sing we now the Holy Weeds
You cannot buy them at the mall,
Nor at the superstore,
They are despised because they all
Grow freely for the poor."
- Margaret Atwood
