Ecology and Communities; Nature, Culture, and Society

 

This session will focus on introducing participants to the ethics and principles of permaculture, while connecting it to the social and ecological systems in which we participate. We will cover such topics as:

  • Introduction to Permaculture with ethics and principles

  • Connections between ecological and social systems

  • Patterns

  • Forest gardening

  • Cultivated and productive ecologies

  • Rural/urban divide

  • Justice and systems

 

Schedule:

Saturday May 14th 10am - 4pm

  1. Check in/housekeeping/mindfulness

  2. Intro to Permaculture, liberation permaculture and systems thinking

  3. Territorial acknowledgement and “locating” ourselves in our place

  4. Introduce ethics

  5. Introduce principles

  6. LUNCH 1230-130

  7. Plants and social systems with Janet Yee

  8. Garden observation

  9. Garden tour

  10. Garden build - hands on skill (creating a guild)

    1. Activity on relating ecological resiliency to social systems

  11. Reflection

 

Sunday May 15th 10am - 4pm

  1. Check in and housekeeping

  2. Project breakdown and mapping skills - zones and sectors, mapping basics

  3. Patterns and forest gardening

  4. LUNCH and travel to Cate’s park

  5. Nature observation walk

  6. Plant walk with Camille Flanjak

  7. Reflection
